Angiogenesis is of fundamental importance in understanding the processes by which a tumour achieves vascularisation. Apart from chemo and haptotaxis cellular locomotion is also affected by the appreciable traction forces endothelial cells exert on the ECM. In this paper we examine the role which cellular traction plays during cell migration and the corresponding visco-elastic effects of the ECM.
