Meeting Arrangements

The lectures will be held in the James Clerk Maxwell Building of the University of Edinburgh. This building, which also houses the Mathematics and Statistics Department, is situated within the King's Buildings complex in the south of Edinburgh, a short bus ride from the centre of Edinburgh. Local maps and information on travel to and within Edinburgh can be found on the ICMS Travel Page. Lunch, tea and coffee will be provided at the venue.

If you are travelling from overseas you may require an entry visa. A European visa does not guarantee entry to the UK. Please use this link to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Visa Enquiry Form to find out if you need a visa and if so how to apply for one.

For residential participants, the meeting will start on the evening of Monday 22nd July with a combined Registration Buffet at Pollock Halls. Summer School lectures (at the J. C. M. B.) will start on the morning of 23rd and continue to lunchtime on Saturday 27th. The Conference will start again on Monday 29th and the final talks will be delivered on the afternoon of Friday 2nd August. (See Scientific Programme for more details.)

We have reserved single study-bedrooms at Pollock Halls, a University of Edinburgh student residence just to the south-east of the city-centre.

Evening meals will be provided for the first week (Monday 22nd to Friday 26th inclusive).Thereafter, it is possible to obtain tickets for evening meals from Pollock Halls reception. Participants are also free to make their own arrangements for accommodation and ICMS staff will be happy to advise.

Financial matters

1. Registration Fee
The Registration fee is £30 for week 1 and £20 for week 2 (£50 for both weeks) and is payable by all participants.

2. Conference costs
The costs will be invoiced prior to the meeting and must be paid at the very latest at Registration.

(a) Residential Fee - £390
This covers bed and breakfast (in a standard room) from the evening of Monday 22 July to the morning of Saturday 3rd August, lunch for the 10 days of the conference and evening meals for the first summer school week. Should you opt for a shorter stay than this, the invoice will be calculated to take account of this.

(b) Non-residential Fee - £75
To cover lunches and coffee etc. during the conference

3. Financial Support

The meeting is funded mainly by the EC under Framework 5 and the London Mathematical Society. Support is available as follows: local costs (the above residential fee) can be applied for by all participants. It will only be possible to make any contribution to travel costs in exceptional circumstances. Participants who are in the EDGE network should claim travel costs and the registration fee from their home institution. Funds are, however, limited and priority will be given to young (under 35) researchers.

Registrations closed on 10 January 2002.
