Scottish Industrial Networking Initiative in Mathematical Sciences

SINIMS Phase 1

Phase 1 of the SINIMS project was funded by the Department for Trade and Industry as a Special Initiative granted to the Smith Institute, part of the Faraday Partnership initiative. The work was undertaken between October 2001 and April 2002 and based at the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences in Edinburgh.

The objectives of Phase 1 were:
  • to promote the initiative to companies, universities and technology transfer organisations.
  • to create a network Scottish industrialists and academics interested in deriving mutual benefits from collaborating with each other on mathematical or computational problems.
  • to capture the requirements of key areas of Scottish industry by running a series of six sector-based workshops.
Over five hundred companies, all thirteen Scottish universities' mathematics departments and a range of enterprise, research and technology transfer organisations were contacted.

Report to the Department for Trade and Industry on Phase 1 of SINIMS.
