Entrance hall of the ICMSWelcome to ICMS

ICMS supports research in the mathematical sciences. Its core activity is the development and organisation of international workshops and conferences in all areas of mathematics and these attract leading mathematical scientists from the UK and overseas. The Overview of ICMS section of this site contains information about our aims, management structure and gender balance policy.

In addition to workshops, ICMS is involved in a number of other mathematical activities such as small group research programmes, postgraduate training, journal management and outreach. Details of current and past projects are available in the Other Activities section. ICMS also hosts events organised by other mathematical and related organisations. The ICMS Full Calendar lists all workshops, other activities and hosted events.

The Scientific Director of ICMS is Professor Keith Ball.

The headquarters of ICMS is at 15 South College Street, Edinburgh, EH8 9AA.

ICMS is wholly owned by Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh. It is funded by its parent universities and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council of the UK with additional support from the London Mathematical Society.

Alternatively, you can follow us on Facebook or Twitter to find out what's coming up and to interact with us.

Calls for Proposals

Indo-UK Initiative in Applied Mathematics

We are now inviting workshop proposals for the EPSRC-DST Indo-UK Initiative in Applied Mathematics. The current deadline is 31 July 2014.  Full details on how to submit a proposal can be found in our Indo-UK Workshop section.

ICMS welcomes proposals for workshops and Research in Groups (RiGs) activities in all aspects of mathematical sciences and interdisciplinary areas with significant mathematical content. RiGs enables researchers to spend a short period in intensive research collaboration at ICMS, away from teaching and administration.

  • Workshop proposals: 31 October 2014
  • Research in Groups proposals: 30 April 2014

Full details on all programmes are in our Call for Proposals section.
