Knowledge Exchange Community Meeting - Industrial Maths in Action

Following on from the successful 2015 KE Community Meeting, this meeting is designed for both academic mathematicians and industrial scientists and will focus on how to do industrial maths with a particular emphasis on how to develop contacts between academia and industry and how to ensure that mathematical results are carried through to implementation.

At the previous meeting, the use of mini-study group type activities at various universities as a proven mechanism to enhance industrial collaborations was highlighted. Not all participants at the 2015 meeting, were familiar with this activity so it was agreed the next community meeting would include an example of how this works.  This has been scheduled for Day 2 of the meeting.

Additionally, the meeting will include an update on the Review of knowledge exchange in the mathematical sciences, chaired by Council for Science and Technology member, Professor Philip Bond, has been launched with support from EPSRC and Innovate UK's Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) that is currently underway. We are delighted to have the support of  MI-NET,  European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry, ECMI , Knowledge Transfer Network and Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation for this meeting.

This meeting will be held at ICMS, 15 South College Street, Edinburgh.

ACCOMMODATION:  ICMS has secured funding to cover accommodation costs for a number of delegates.  Early registration is recommended to receive a space with funded accommodation

TRAVEL: It is anticipated that all delegates will cover their own travel costs.

At the 2015 Meeting, Study Groups were highlighted as a good mechanism for knowledge exchange.  Many participants were unfamiliar with this activity, so this meeting will include an example of a mini-study group activity.   During the activity sessions, there will be scope for some parallel activity following up on Day 1 discussions and actions.
