Prof Hannah Fry,
About:
It's often easy to become blinded by the power of data and believe that, with enough information, human behaviour is predictable. And in many ways, it is - there are no shortage of terrific stories where numbers have unlocked the answers to our biggest questions. But numbers can also lead us perilously astray.
In this Public Lecture, Prof Hannah Fry explores the lessons that science has learned about what parts of our future are truly forecastable and what happens when things go wrong. We'll have a look at the awesome power and potential of data, and find its limitations.
Hannah Fry is an Associate Professor in the Mathematics of Cities at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London. She is also an experienced public speaker, award winning science presenter, and best-selling author, known for her joyful ability to bring maths to life for audiences of all interests and abilities.
