Support the ICMS

The International Centre for Mathematical Sciences was created in December 1989 by Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt Universities in response to a challenge laid down by Nobel Prize winner Abdus Salam in his Edinburgh Medal address of that year. Since 2018, it has been located in the Bayes Centre in the heart of the University of Edinburgh's George Square campus.

Its principal aims are:

  • To advance the mathematical sciences by fostering collaborations between researchers and disseminating their discoveries

  • To stimulate the impact of mathematical innovation on the world, promoting interactions with other disciplines, industry and commerce;

  • To contribute to the future of the mathematical sciences through the training and support for the next generation of mathematicians;

  • To promote an appreciation of the value, beauty and ubiquity of the mathematical sciences;

  • To build and connect international research communities, encouraging their diversity and dynamism.

The activities of the ICMS are supported primarily by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the United Kingdom. However, the policies of the EPSRC do not allow us to cover the full cost of most events or staff support. Donations to cover the shortfall or to hold special focussed events are very welcome. We are also seeking donations that will ensure the long-term sustainability of the ICMS in view of the danger that government funding might be decreased or discontinued.

Adopt a workshop

A simple way to support the work of the ICMS is to donate funds to complement the government funding for specific workshops that are close to your interest. A donation of 10,000 GBP for a 5-day workshop or 5000 GBP for a 2-3 day workshop will give you rights to be listed as the sole co-sponsor of a workshop, together with the EPSRC. Here is a list of the forthcoming workshops. You may also be interested in sponsoring one of the other events in our schedule. Please contact the director Minhyong Kim if you are interested in donating.
