Simons Collaboration on Global Categorical Symmetries

 11 - 13 Oct 2021

Online

About:

The kick-off event for the newly established Simons Collaboration on Global Categorical Symmetries https://wp.math.berkeley.edu/scgcs/, was held on October 11-13, 2021 simultaneously at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics (SCGP) in Stony Brook NY, and at the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) in Edinburgh UK.

This was a twinned and hybrid event due to current travel restrictions. Through this collaboration a number of conferences and workshops over the next several years have been organised.

The below questions were raised for discussion during the lecture:

What is quantum field theory? - led by Dan Freed and Nathan Seiberg

Non-invertible symmetries - led by Zohar Komargodski, Kantaro Ohmori, Shu-Heng Shao, and Ryan Thorngren

Symmetries and gauge theory - led by Greg Moore and  Nikita Nekrasov

Lectures

Several lectures were provided from our PI's outlining the tools and aims of the collaboration (precise program TBD).

There were a number of guest lectures provided by the following speakers:
Davide Gaiotto
Anton Kapustin
Alexei Kitaev
Sakura Schäfer-Nameki
Xiao-Gan Wen
