About:

Organised by the School of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh, this panel discussion brings together experts from national labs and academia, industry and system operators, chaired by Professor Miguel Anjos from the School of Mathematics. The panel will discuss how AI can contribute to solving the challenges posed by the transition required in power systems to decarbonise our electricity supply across the world. We interpret AI in a broad sense to include automated decision support, data-driven approaches, as well as new developments in areas such as generative AI and decision support systems.

The event is held in partnership with the Global Power System Transformation consortium (G-PST), an international alliance of electricity system operators formed to drive the developments in technology and changes in practice required for the transition to a decarbonised electricity supply.

Agenda:

  • Welcome
  • Iain Gordon - Head of College of Science and Engineering, University of Edinburgh
  • Miguel Anjos - Chair of Operational Research, School of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh
  • Panel discussion on on benefits of AI in energy systems
  • Open for questions
  • Ends at 19:00
