Getting around Edinburgh and finding The Bayes Centre
Coming to ICMS
WHERE TO FIND US
ICMS is based at the Bayes Centre, 47 Potterrow Edinburgh, where we've been since summer 2018. The Bayes Centre is a flexible and practical venue for running events, with two seminar rooms and lots of space to work in, either in groups or on your own. We also have great views of Edinburgh's extraordinary landscape. In addtion to space at Bayes we also have office space at 14 India Street, the birthplace of James Clerk Maxwell. This is used primarily for our Research-in-Groups programme. In summer 2024 we took on space at the superb new Edinburgh Futures Institute on Lauriston Place, a few minutes walk from the Bayes Centre.
The following pages will provide you with information to help you prepare for your visit to ICMS, including how to find us, what facilities to expect, what support we can offer for those with caring needs, and some suggestions for accommodation. The Bayes Centre is fully accessible. Further information on accessibility and Bayes can be found here.
The majority of ICMS activities take place in-person at the Bayes Centre, however we also run events in other locations, plus online events. Each ICMS activity will have its own event page with full details of the venue.
Your institution - travel insurance
Before making ANY travel plans we strongly recommend you check the guidance provided by your employer/home institution and any permissions required to travel. This should also involve ensuring the appropriate travel insurance is in place to cover your trip. This applies to both international visitors AND UK-based participants.
Healthcare information for visitors to Edinburgh and the Lothians can be found here.
Why we have chosen a vegetarian menu at ICMS
Sustainability is very important and we all have to take small steps to effect larger changes.
By offering an entirely vegetarian menu at ICMS we believe that this is a positive contribution towards our goals of being a more environmentally sustainable institute. Our caterers provide a vibrant, fresh menu that changes each day, offering our visitors a delicious choice of appealing vegetarian and vegan food. Special diets can be catered for. Other steps we have taken are to reduce the amount of single use plastic and not providing unnecessary printed materials at events.
SCAMS - a warning
ICMS does not use third parties to organise events on our behalf. That's our job after all!
