About:
The Virtual Forum for Knowledge Exchange in the Mathematical Sciences (V-KEMS) and the Institute of Mathematical Innovation (IMI) are hosting a three day virtual study group on the general theme of the interaction between mathematics/AI and the justice system. This event will use mathematical, statistical and machine learning tools to examine issues related to the justice system and to establish/strengthen links between the mathematics and the justice communities. The attendees will be a mixture of mathematical scientists and members of the justice system. Experts will introduce the main themes and three main problem areas to be tackled:
- Modelling throughput through the justice system
- Statistical study of possible bias in jury selection/sentencing
- The role of AI in the justice system; opportunities, dangers and ethics
This event is supported by the KE Hub and ICMS is delighted to provide funding through our Mathematics for Humanity scheme.
